“Life had suddenly become one where dreams do come true, wishes were granted, and that the world can be a warm and loving place.”

I fostered a little 5 year old girl who had never experienced Christmas before. She knew there was a Father Christmas, but he’d never been to her house before as she was too ‘naughty’. She didn’t really get what it was all about and was a little bemused by it all.

She loved that the elves had come and decorated the house. Her face lit up when she saw everything. We took her to see the houses that had been decorated and she found it ever so magical, her eyes noticing every single detail, every star, every reindeer, every snowman.

She was a cheeky lively little lady who had difficulty controlling herself at times, but we reassured her that Father Christmas would still come as long as she tried her best to be kind and listen. She was introduced to Christmas songs and Christmas stories and she found out that the loud voice she possessed could out sing us all!

She loves crafts and got so much pleasure making cards for others, she became a true glitter fairy. The thought of a stocking on her bed was a little too scary so we agreed to leave it on her door handle ready for the big man. She happily did this after leaving out the essential goodies for Father Christmas and his reindeer.

On the day itself I cannot describe the pure awe and wonder when she realised Father Christmas had actually been to our house and that some of the gifts under the tree had her name on them. We spread the opening of presents across the day and she carefully unwrapped each and every one of them.

It is so very difficult to portray in words the magic, joy, and happiness that she was feeling on Christmas day and in the build-up, life had suddenly become one where dreams do come true, wishes were granted, and that the world can be a warm and loving place.
